January 06 Great Ocean Road MemoriesAhhh.... Was just thinking back to some memories of my trips to Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia back in the late '90s (Yes... I was there, before Y2K... Yes, I'm kind of ancient now...) The reason why I thought back so far was the earlier post I made about the "Memoirs Of A Geisha" spoof and the manner in which "Sayuri" made those faces.. LOL!!! I could make those faces because I had a lot of practice. Hehe... Anyway, I attribute it to Oh well, have a look at the pic below... ![]() Here we have, a lovely pic of the ocean but all of a sudden, a BIG HEAD appears!! OMG... WHAT THE HECK IS THAT???!!!!! Oh... It was just the Emotion Vampire, trying to sneak into the picture. Anyway, I went to Great Ocean Road twice, once with the uni society and the second with a bunch of close mates. The second trip was really fun as we went to a lighthouse at Apollo Bay and stayed at the house nearby. There was no proper heating except for fireplaces and we had a blast trying to setup fires around the house. Chopping wood was "fun" and some of us had a hand in that. Ahhh... The memories... As I think of the next big gathering for all my uni mates, I remininsce about those times and think about going back to Melbourne to visit some old sites and also go to new ones as well! December 30 2 Jakun @ Aquaria KLCCThe following entry you are about to read is based on a true experience. Some embellishment and exageration is to be expected...
** The following conversation took place Dec 28th 2005 in the car going to KLCC **
You see, with my iPod Nano hanging in the balance, I had no choice but to give in to the demands of the Emotion Vampire. So, as scheduled on Dec 29th 2005, we made our way to these places... BTW, I paid RM20.50 for around 8hrs of parking at KLCC carpark. DON'T BRING UP THE THING ABOUT OUTDOOR PARKING!! EMOTION VAMPIRE GOT A LOT OF DELICATE BARANG IN MY CAR BOOT, CANNOT EXPOSE TO SUN-1....!!!!
*Lalalala..... Some hours later... After nice makan... ( (burp) )*
The walk to the Aquaria from KLCC was very long. At some points, I thought Emotion Vampire would start to feel faint, but she felt better after a quick emotional suck from me... We had to walk through some carpark to get to the place. I remembered EV (Emotion Vampire) made a remark about how lousy the walk through the carpark was but I said that if they did a really nice tunnel, they would waste valuable carpark space. We M'sians always think about $$ first, and then go "aiya!! forgot to do this..." and then they'll add in the other neccessary stuff. Anyway, once we reached the place, there were some helpful signs leading us to the entrance of the GIFT SHOP!!!! Hahahaha... We did a double-take because we weren't sure if we should go in and buy tickets from there and then, 'thru the magic of Narnia, we open some cupboard door and be transported to the actual acquarium... So, we as jakun followed some crowds and reached another entrance. OMG, it was dark, the security guards outside didn't say anything but were friendly enough to say "Masuk-la" and show us where to buy the tickets. EV had MyKad and so, got us RM10 discount!! ** SONG!!! ** The cashier told us that got lucky draw, told us to masuk the entry once we cabut from the place. As usual, since EV more kiasu than me, she quickly started to fill up and said, "better do now, or else got crowd later, hard-le" Once we got in, EV made a bee-line for the first thing she saw, some school of fish swimming very fast. She didn't even read any of the labels but quickly moved from exhibit to exhibit, in the speed of light. I was busy fiddling with my camera, since no flash is allowed (and its useless cause it will reflect back), I had to resort to "manual" no-flash mode. EV was so excited.. The following is an excerpt of our conversation...
This was repeated a few more times, because we saw so many cool stuff. Like sharks, giant arowanas and things native to Malaysian waters, i.e. from freshwater to mangrove swamps and finally the deep seas. We saw lots of cool fish and large tortoises. It would have been cool to see a sea turtle, like what we saw in Sydney. The Sydney aquarium was much larger, with sections dedicated to crocodiles (crocs in OZ slang) and a large undersea aquarium, where fishes swam in from the harbour. So cool to watch dozens of sharks lying right on the tank above you as you walk underneath. I would have to say that this trip to Aquaria was definitely worth the RM28 spent.... EV and I both supported the aquarium by buying a couple of t-shirts too.. Go visit Aquaria KLCC!!! Oh yea, have a look at the pics I've posted too! |
